James A. McAfee

July 28, 1940 — January 31, 2003

JAMES A. McAFEE, 62, of Stone Creek, died unexpectedly Friday, January 31, 2003. Jim was born at home in Nottingham Township, Cadiz, July 28, 1940 to the late Harley F. and Irene M. Lillie McAfee. In 1959 he graduated from Stone Creek Jefferson High School where he played basketball. While in school, Jim met Monica A. Reinhart, a school cheerleader and couple married January 25, 1963. Jim was a member of Grace United Church of Christ. He served as a Stone Creek Village council member and was a volunteer fireman there since 1962. By profession he was a large equipment operator for Tuscarawas County Road & Bridge Dept. and Jefferson Township. Jim also instructed adult heavy equipment operation at Buckeye Career Center. Jim enjoyed fishing, but most of all he loved being with his two grandchildren, Kennedy and Cameron. In addition to his wife Monica, he is survived by two daughters, Jamee (Dwight) Farmer of Howard, OH and Caree McAfee of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, Kennedy and Cameron Farmer; sister, Grace (Rev. W. Jay) Dolvin of Massillon; brothers, C. Melvin (Janice) McAfee of Stone Creek and Donald W. “Tuff” (Martha) McAfee of Somerdale; sisters-in-law, Jean McAfee of Stone Creek, Lynda Garber and Brenda (Terry) Swegheimer, both of New Philadelphia; brother-in-law, Rod (Corine) Reinhart of Stone Creek; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Besides his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his son, Conn James McAfee in 1967, brothers, Arthur, H. Dale and Craig McAfee and sister, Bernice Veritel. Calling hours will be Sunday, February 2, 2003, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home. The funeral will be Monday, February 3, 2003 at 11:00 AM in Jerusalem Church, 1417 Stone Creek Rd., SW, with Jim’s brother-in-law, Rev. W. Jay Dolvin officiating. Private burial will follow at Stone Creek Cemetery. Afterward, a meal will be shared in the church. Contributions may be made to the Stone Creek Volunteer Fire Department, P. O. Box 78, Stone Creek, OH 43840 of to the Stone Creek Cemetery Fund, c/o Shull’s, 125 W. Maple, Stone Creek, OH 43840.
