James A. Cottrell, 47, of New Philadelphia, died Sunday, February 6, 2005 at Aultman Hospital in Canton.A son of Brooks Cottrell and the late Bessie (Frame) Cottrell, James was born March 21, 1957 in Canton. He was a 1976 graduate of Tuscarawas Valley High School and was employed at The Hoover Company in Canton for 26 years.James was a member of the Sandy Valley Eagles, Heyjacks Sportsman Club and the New Philadelphia Amvets. He also coached New Philadelphia Little League and Pony League for the last 15 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing as well.He is survived by his wife, Maretta (Peterman) Cottrell, whom he married on April 24, 1976; one daughter, Melissa Cottrell of Canton; two sons, Jeremy Cottrell of New Philadelphia and Michael Cottrell of Dellroy; one granddaughter, Amber Gingerich; his father Brooks Cottrell of Mineral City, one sister, Linda (Jon) Newell; one brother, Ricky Cottrell and many nieces and nephewsJames was preceded in death by his mother.Visitation will be Wednesday, February 9, 2005, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia. Services will be held on Thursday, February 10, 2005 at 1:30p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel with Pastor Lester Stephens officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens.A reception will be held in the Geib Family Center in New Philadelphia following the committal.
