Jack Thomas Beans, 84, of New Philadelphia, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2009 in Union Hospital.A son of the late Eddie and Rhea (Smith) Beans, Jack was born May 1, 1925 at Barnhill, Ohio.Jack attended Midvale High School and on August 20, 1943, he enlisted with the United States Army and served with the 17th Tank Battalion during World War II. Jack fought in the Battle of the Bulge and served in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. As part of his efforts in the war, Jack was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the European Theatre Service Medal, four Bronze Stars and the Victory Medal. On January 1, 1946, Jack received an honorable discharge from the Army as a corporal. On May 19, 1951 in Sacred Heart Church at New Philadelphia, Jack married the love of his life, the former Esther Pisony. Together the couple reared three children, Jackie, Susan and Eddie.He retired from Raymond Machine at Brightwood as a machinist after 40 years of service. Following retirement, Jack served as the groundskeeper for Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia for several years.Jack enjoyed traveling, especially to Put-in-Bay and Myrtle Beach and often times he could be found walking laps around New Towne Mall. He was an avid woodworker with one of his most notable projects being his home that he built. Jack was also a member of the Midvale V.F.W.His greatest joy in life was his family. Whether it was a family vacation or simply a quiet visit, Jack cherished each moment spent with them. They will all miss their dear “Pa”.He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Esther Beans; two daughters, Jackie (Terry) Rieger and Susan (Keith) Sankey both of New Philadelphia; a son Eddie Beans of New Philadelphia; five grandchildren, Tera (Brian) Myers, Ryan (Jamie) Rieger and Drew and Taylor Sankey all of New Philadelphia and Ethan Beans of Navarre; four great grandchildren, Sophia and Kyle Myers and Preston and Parker Rieger all of New Philadelphia; a sister, Sally (Paul) Kerr of New Philadelphia and two brothers-in-law, Joe (Delores) Pisony and Albert (Virginia) Pisony both of New Philadelphia.The family will receive guests on Thursday, May 14, 2009 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Jack’s life will be held on Friday, May 15, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel with Pastor Chad Stutzman officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia where the Midvale V.F.W. will render military honors. Following the committal service, a memorial reception will be held in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.The family suggests that contributions be made in Jack’s memory to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West Third Street, Dover, OH 44622.
