Jack Lee Metcalf, age 68, of Yucca Valley, California, formerly of New Philadelphia and Roswell, died peacefully March 18, 2005, in Hi-Desert Medical Center at Joshua Tree, CA.Born August 13, 1936, Jack was a son of the late Raymond Metcalf and Freda McKnight and stepfather, Nicholas DiNicola. Jack attended of New Philadelphia High School before he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in the early 1950’s. Following his discharge, he resided in New Philadelphia before relocating to California where he became affiliated with the Marine Corps base in Twenty-Nine Palms, CA. Survivors include his three brothers, James R. Metcalf, Ted (Delores) Metcalf, and Buster (Roberta) Metcalf all of New Philadelphia; a sister, Sandra Metcalf Creamer of Uhrichsville, O., and numerous nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place in California. The Metcalf family will celebrate Jack’s life at a memorial service led by Msgr. George J. Schlegel of Sacred Heart Church, Thursday, March 31, 2005 at 11 AM in the Chapel of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia. Following the committal service, a reception will be given in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home.
