Jack Gordon Stotts

Jack Gordon Stotts, 83, of Third St SE, New Philadelphia died peacefully, surrounded by his family, in his home Thursday afternoon, February 20, 2003. Born July 8, 1919 in Zanesville, O, he was one of eleven children in the Paul & Esther Wogan Stotts family. Mr. Stotts was a 51 year resident of New Philadelphia, having worked for the Marsh Lumber Company before he began a career as an independent truck driver. He most recently owned and operated S & R Coffee Service. His memberships included the South Broadway United Methodist Church, Midvale VFW Post 9620, and the Teamsters Union Local 92. Jack served his country during World War II in the Army as a mechanic. Upon completion of his tour of duty, on March 10, 1945, he married the former Ruth Wilcox Stotts. Together, they raised two daughters; Jill (Larry) Schupbach of Lawrenceville, GA and Sue (Craig) Deetz of Minerva. Their family grew and they were blessed with five grandchildren; Jeannine (Rick) Gooch, Paul Chaney, Todd McNichols, Tammy (Mike) Bush, and Marjorie Bryant. Nine Great-Grandchildren complete the family.In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by five sisters; Faye Soter, Ruth Taggart, Wanda Creeks, Glenna Dilts, Peg Bagley, and a brother Dwight Stotts, all of Zanesville, O., in addition to a brother Dale Stotts of Ruskin, FL. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister. Friends may call Friday (today) with the family present from 4 to 7 PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home. A Funeral celebrating Jack’s life will begin at 1:30 Saturday in the funeral home’s chapel with Rev. Jonathan McCleery officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in New Philadelphia. In gratitude for their exemplary service, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West Third Street, Dover, OH 44622, or to the Broadway United Methodist Church, 120 Church Street, SE, New Philadelphia OH 44663.
