Jack F. Fantine, 82, of New Philadelphia passed away November 7, 2017 in the Country Club Retirement Community at Dover, Ohio.
A son of the late John F. and Emma (Visintainer) Fantin, Jack was born November 11, 1934 at Roswell.
Jack started his career at the Ohio Department of Transportation at the age of 17. From 1959 to 1961 he served in the United States Army. He continued his career at ODOT upon returning from the Army, retiring in December of 1991. After retirement, he was elected as a Goshen Township Trustee, serving until 2002. He was active in politics and Sacred Heart Church, as well as being an active coon hunter throughout his life. Jack also enjoyed dancing to live music.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Carol Janice (Sayre) Fantine, whom he married November 9, 2013; his daughter, Karen (Timothy) Clark; his son Dan (Amanda) Fantine; five grandchildren, Amelia, Rory, and Magnolia Fantine and Emma and Abigail Clark; Four brothers, Frank Fantin, Vic Fantin, Dan (Sharon) Fantin, and Louie (Ruth) Fantin; a sister, Norma Fantin; a sister-in-law, Shelby Fantin ; brother-in-law Bert Kohler; one step-child, Richard (Becky) Wassem; one step-grandchild, Haley Wassem, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jack is preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Jean (Riker) Fantine; a brother, John Fantin and a sister, Louise (Wishard) Patrick; two sisters-in-law, Fran Fantin and Louise Fantin as well as a niece Rhonda Bigler.
The family will greet guests on Friday, November 10, 2017 from 5-8 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where a Christian Wake service will begin at 8 PM. Father Jeff Coning will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 1:30 PM in Sacred Heart Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia. A meal will follow in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.
