Irene Katherine Slasor

Irene Katherine Slasor, age 91, passed away Tuesday, November 08, 2016. She was born in Akron, OH on December 31, 1924, to the late Tom and Katherine (Cerveni) Nepsa. Irene was an active member of the First United Church of Christ for 60 years and served the church in many different ministries. She was a member of the New Philadelphia Lady Elks (Lodge #510). Irene was an avid reader and bridge player. She will be dearly missed and will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.

Irene is survived by her beloved daughters Sally (Doyle) McCombs of Dover, OH Nancy (Will) Hawkins of Hinckley, OH and Mary Baird of Lake Wylie, South Carolina; daughter-in-law Kelly Slasor of Chattanooga, TN; dear grandchildren Thomas Vincent (Mary Beth) Slasor, III, Tanner Slasor, Spencer Slasor, Shawn (Stella) McCombs, Sheila (Andy) Fox, Jessica (Brian) Amsden, Carmen Hawkins, Sarah Hawkins, Maureen (Joe) Miezin, and Jacob Baird; and 16 great grandchildren;

She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Thomas Vincent Slasor; son Thomas Vincent “Skip” Slasor, Jr.; son-in-law Thad Baird; grandson Taylor Baird; great grandson Logan McCombs; brothers Tony, Sam, Andrew, and Martin Nepsa and Andrew and George Struhar; and sisters Anne Mercer and Helen Nepsa.

A Memorial Service will be held on November 12, 2016 at 11 a.m. at First United Church of Christ, 201 Fair Ave NW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663. Pastor Jeff Gerber will officiate the service. A private burial will take place at East Avenue Cemetery.
