Ira “Whitey” E. Flinn, age 78, of New Philadelphia, was reunited with his loving wife when died following an extended illness Wednesday, January 23, 2008 in Lafayette, Tennessee. Ira was born at Parkersburg, West Virginia on February 19, 1929 as one of fourteen children to the late Albert and Nelley Hupp Flinn.On January 9, 1959 Ira was wed to Gurtaleen Morris, who preceded him in death on November 27, 2007.Mr. Flinn was a heavy equipment operator and supervisor for Bill Hawk, Inc. for many years. In addition, Ira was a life member of Ohio Operating Engineers Local 18, an avid outdoorsman and an active hunter. Above all, however, he was a family man who enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.Ira leaves behind four children; a daughter, Michelle (Shawn) McCallin of Louisville, Ohio; three sons, Michael Flinn and his fiancee Leslie Bergdorff of Layfayette, Tennessee, Lonnie (Laraine) Flinn of Canton and Jerry (Barb) Flinn of New Philadelphia. Ten grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren complete the family. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 25, 2008 from 6 – 8 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service remembering Ira’s life will be held Saturday, January 26, 2008 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home’s chapel.
