Inge Friend

Ingeburg W. Friend, age 94, of New Philadelphia, passed away in her home early Saturday, April 15, 2023, after a period of declining health.

Born in Frankfurt, Germany on September 21, 1928. Inge was the daughter of the late Johann F. Dorr and Rosine Babette (Pabst) Dorr.  Inge was very proud that she became a United States’ citizen on September 14, 1973.

On October 8, 1948 she married John T. Friend Jr. and together they enjoyed 63 years of marriage before his passing in December of 2011.

Inge was a true homemaker.  She loved to garden and can.  Spending time with her family was a priority in her life.  They traveled throughout the United States and loved to camp.  In addition to raising a large family, Inge worked in retail sales and at various local greenhouses before she retired.

Inge is survived by her children; John Friend of Canton, Barbara Jean Stallman of Seattle, Washington, Donna Kay Keith-Friend of New Philadelphia, Rosemarie (John) Hirning of Dover, Michael (Roz) Friend of Jensen Beach, Florida, and David (Colleen) Friend of Mineral City; 20 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Richard Friend; grandson, Richard T. Sprankle; great-grandson, Evan Friend; 1 brother and 4 sisters.

Friends may call on Saturday, April 22, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover.  A funeral service celebrating Inge’s life will follow at 4:00 PM in the funeral home with Deacon Lyn Houze officiating. A memorial reception will follow in the Hospitality Room at the Geib Funeral Center.  In keeping with her wishes, cremation will follow the services and inurnment will be held at a later date.
