Ila May Buckohr, age 84, of New Philadelphia, died Monday evening, December 24, 2012, in her residence, following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.
Born at Dover, Ohio on October 26, 1928, Ila was a 1946 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. Following high school Ila began working for the W. T. Grant Company and later for the Jones Sewing Machine and Fabric Store. She later worked as the deli department manager for the former Weber’s IGA and served the Brooklyn Grill as a prep cook.
On September 25, 1949, Ila married Edward F. Buckohr, Jr. and as a couple, raised five children and shared in 43 years of marriage prior to his passing on March 3, 1993.
Many who knew Ila knew of her love for sewing and her talents as a seamstress. She also enjoyed making baskets, knitting, crocheting, quilting, and easily mastered any craft she encountered. Among her craft hobbies, Ila liked playing cards, playing bingo, listening to music, and attending dances. She also loved to travel and cook meals for her family, spend time with her grandchildren and enjoyed the company of her pets, having cared for miniature schnauzers and cats for many years.
Ila is survived by her second husband, Charles G. Campbell whom she married on August 20, 1999; five children, sons, Randal “Homer” Buckohr and William (Valerie) Buckohr of New Philadelphia; twin daughters, Deborah (James) Collins of New Philadelphia and Denise (Arthur) Davidson of Sarasota, Florida, and a daughter, Laura (Jeff) Barcus of Stone Creek.
Completing the family are eight grandchildren, Shawn, Shane and Aaron Buckohr, Jack Buckohr, Jennifer (Ray) Baker, James (Amy) Collins, Carrie Collins, and Jessie Barcus; two step-grandchildren, Christopher (Lori) Ricklic and Tyler Ricklick; eight great-grandchildren, Jaden and Madilyn Metcalf, James, William, and Emmett Collins, Morgan Speer, Kobe and Kayden Barcus; and two step-great-grandchildren, Mason and Zander Ricklic.
In addition to her first husband, Ila was preceded in death by her mother, Sarah Wise, and her half-brother, Edward Wise.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 28, 2012 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Rev. Dr. Steven Bailey will lead a service celebrating Ila’s life in the funeral home’s chapel on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 10 AM. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
