Hugh J. Meese

Hugh J. Meese, 85, of Brightwood, died Thursday evening, June 7, 2007, in the Hennis Care Centre of Dover.Born in the home at Brightwood, Ohio, on August 7, 1921, Hugh was the son of the late Lawrence and Mary Coventry Meese. He was a life resident of Tuscarawas County.Hugh was a 1940 graduate of Midvale High School, was a World War II Army veteran having served with the 504th AAA Gun Battalion in Layte and Okinawa and had retired from the United States Postal Service after 30 years as a postal carrier. He was a member of Midvale United Methodist Church, A.A.R.P, the National Association of Letter Carriers and the Plus or Minus 60 Club. He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Carilyn R. Proctor Meese, whom he married Sept. 20 1946; sons, Dan (Bonnie) Meese of Milton, W. VA. and David (Ruth) Meese of New Philadelphia; sisters, Janice Polos, of Janesville, WI., and Joan Meese, of Brightwood; grandchildren, Michelle Meese and Scott Meese, both of Barbour sville, W. VA. And Gregory (Nicole) Meese, of Gnadenhutten; and great grandchildren, Alexis, Edie, and Vincent.Hugh was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Harold Meese, a son, Larry H. Meese and an infant brother and sister.Visitation will be held Sunday, June 10, 2007 from 1:00pm till 3:00pm in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral home & Crematory of New Philadelphia. Funeral Services will be conducted Monday in the funeral home chapel at 2:00pm with Reverends David Powell and Joel Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park.
