Howard R. Sullivan, 80, of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at Aultman Hospital in Canton.Born September 29, 1921, in New Philadelphia, Ohio, he was the son of the late Henry Anderson and Goldie Mae Metzger Sullivan. Howard served honorably with the U.S. Army during WWII from October 1942- July 1945. He retired in September of 1983 after 35 years of service as a construction worker for Gundy Construction Inc. Howard was a member of the First Christian Church of New Philadelphia, a Past Commander of New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post # 1445, Disabled Veterans Commander, Tuscarawas Valley Pioneer Power Association, Fairfield Grange 1408, AARP Chapter 2495, Laborers Local # 134, and Bricklayers Local # 6.Surviving are a son, Charles (Peggy) Sullivan of Johnstown, Ohio; granddaughter, Christine (William) Robbins of Johnstown; two sisters, Dorothy Reymond of New Philadelphia and Jane DuBoise of Milton, Fl; and numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nettie “Maxine” Dessecker who died November 26, 1998; three sisters, June Herbert, Patricia King, and Betty Bitikofer.Calling hours will be held Friday, June 28, 2002, from 6-8 pm at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 29, at 10:30 am at the funeral home with Rev. Jim Borton officiating. Burial will follow at East Avenue Cemetery with military rites conducted by New Philadelphia VFW Post # 1445.
