Howard M. Hinson, 89, longtime resident of New Philadelphia, died peacefully early Tuesday morning, December 17, 2002 in Park Village Health Care Center of Dover. Born November 30, 1913 in Hohenwald, TN, he was a son of the late Commodore D. and Lera Baker Hinson. When he was four years old, his family relocated to New Philadelphia, where he attended school and graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1932.He proudly served in the Civilian Conservation Corps after high school. A dedicated man, Howard joined the former Union Camp Corporation and forty-two years later, retired as purchasing manager. Mr. Hinson was a member of the New Philadelphia Church of Christ and the New Philadelphia Lodge No. 177, F. & A. M. On August 31, 1940, he married the former Helen J. Alexander, who preceded Howard in death on October 20, 1997. Survivors include a daughter, Nancy (James M.) Newbill of Dublin, O, two sisters; Nina (Delmar) Espenschied of New Philadelphia, Freda (Albert) Margo of Dover and a brother; Robert M. Hinson of Columbus, O. In addition to his parents and wife, an infant son; Kenneth, and three brothers; Bruce, Donald, and Jerry preceded Mr. Hinson in death. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00AM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia with Minister Tim Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Burial Park. Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 6 at the funeral home. The family requests that memorials be made to the Cincinnati Shriners Hospital for burned children in care of the New Philadelphia Masonic Lodge, 202 West High Avenue, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
