Howard Knauss Eichel, 87, of New Philadelphia, died Friday, May 17, 2002, at Union Hospital, Dover.Born August 14, 1914, in Tuscarawas, Ohio, Howard was the son of the late Roy B. and Anna J. (Sharpe) Eichel. He retired from Gundy Construction where he worked as a Master Mechanic. Also, he previously worked at Brinker Supply in Dover. Howard was a member of Schoenbrunn Community Moravian Church, a member of the New Philadelphia Masonic Lodge #177 Chapter of R.A.M. #38, Tuscarawas Council #109, St. Bernard Commandry #51 of Dover, and the Scottish Rite Valley of Canton, New Philadelphia Chapter #222 Order of the Eastern Star of which he was a past Patron, and a life member of Tusco Rifle Club where he served as a trustee. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, tools, animals, and he loved spending time with his family and friends.Surviving is his wife of 66 years, Maxine Walker Eichel of the home, whom he married November 10, 1935; daughter, Jean-Anne (Thomas) Baker of Tuscarawas; son, Jim (Sonja) Eichel of Gnadenhutten; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Eichel.Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 20, 2002, at 11 AM at the Schoenbrunn Community Moravian Church, in New Philadelphia, with Rev. Bruce Weaknecht officiating. Burial will be in Sharon Moravian Church Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Sunday, May 19, from 2-5 PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home with an Order of the Eastern Star Service conducted by New Philadelphia Chapter #222 O.E.S. at 4:15 PM and a Masonic Service conducted by the New Philadelphia Masonic Lodge # 177 at 4:30 PM. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Schoenbrunn Community Moravian Church, 2200 E. High Avenue, New Philadelphia, Ohio, 44663.
