Howard D. Blind, 78, of New Philadelphia died Tuesday, June 26, 2012 in Park Village Health Care Center at Dover following a lengthy illness.
He was born at New Philadelphia on September 19, 1933 to the late Harvey “Roy” and Ethel (Harris) Blind.
He was a 1951 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and a 1956 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University where he was in the ROTC program and a member of Alpha Sigma Phi. He was a veteran of five years in the United States Air Force with a rank of second lieutenant.
After his Military service he was employed by the Cleveland Trust Co. and also taught at Garaway High School and retired as a fireman at the Belden Brick Co. in 1998. Always busy, he was employed at New Towne Mall until his failing health required him to leave. Howard loved Ham radio and was an active member of the Tuscarawas County Amateur Radio Club, his call letters were KD8KF. He loved astronomy and the study of the German language. Howard was past member of the First Baptist Church at New Philadelphia as well as a former member of the New Philadelphia and Uhrichsville Moose Lodges.
He is survived by his son Robert (Sadie) Blind of Farr West, UT and their three children, Katharine, Robert and Ryan and his daughter Elizabeth (Thomas) Brown of Buena Park, CA and their two children Elise and Emma; his two brothers Harold (Roberta) Blind of New Philadelphia and Willard (Elizabeth) Blind of Lancaster, Ohio and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister Marjorie.
In keeping with Howard’s wishes, cremation will take place through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Rich VanArsdalen will lead a graveside service on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 11 a.m. in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia with the New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post #1445 rendering military honors.
