Howard Calvin Wells, 88, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family in Schoenbrunn Healthcare Center Wednesday morning, February 19, 2014 following a period of declining health.
Born in Jefferson County on March 9, 1925, he was the son of the late Edward Clinton and Pearl Belle (Combs) Wells. After graduating from high school, he honorably served in the United States Army during World War II.
Howard’s professional career as a truck driver spanned numerous years where he worked for a variety of companies. He also was an active member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Howard will be deeply missed by his daughters, Barbara Wells-Auber of Gnadenhutten, Christine Pierpoint of Dover, Susan Stevenson of Conroe, Texas, and Judy Hall of New Philadelphia; 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Wells; his daughter, Molly Wells; his brothers, Ralph, Floyd, Woodrow, and Claude Wells; and his sister, Violet Hamilton.
In keeping with Howard’s wishes, cremation will be cared for locally at Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory. A public memorial service will be held at a later date.
