Hope Marvin

Hope Marvin, 90, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 at her home in New Philadelphia.A daughter of the late William and Florence (Wertenberger) Briceland, Hope was born January 22, 1916 at Alliance, Ohio.She was a graduate of Ravenna High School and on July 15, 1938, Hope married Willis L. “Kelly” Marvin. Together, they reared two daughters, Becky and Suzanne.Hope was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene at New Philadelphia where she also served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was employed for many years at the Wonder Bread Thrift Store in both New Philadelphia and Dover. During her employment at the thrift store, customers referred to her as “The Bread Lady”. She was also in the Ground Observer Corps before its extinction as well as a member of the Grandparent Program at Eastport Elementary at Uhrichsville. Hope also enjoyed gardening and bird watching.She is survived by her two daughters, Becky Marvin of Dover, Ohio and Suzanne (Alvin) Strong of Essex Junction, Vermont; granddaughters, Jill Gilmore-Newland of New Philadelphia, Kelly Gilmore of Dover, Elizabeth (Sileshi) Mebrate of Malden, Massachusetts and Christina Strong of Atlanta, Georgia; one great grandson, Tim Newland of New Philadelphia and one sister, Helen Morgan of Dover.Hope was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kelly, who passed away in 1966; one sister, Marguerite Skilton and two brothers, Ronald and William Briceland.Family and friends may call in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory on Thursday, December 28, 2006 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A funeral service celebrating Hope’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 29, 2006 in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel with Rev. Terry Kidd officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Following the committal service, a memorial reception will be held in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.Memorial contributions may be made in Hope’s memory to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West Third Street, Dover, OH 44622
