Homer Gene Boitnott

July 31, 1934 — November 7, 2015

Homer Gene Boitnott, age 81, of Dover, died unexpectedly following a brief illness in Union Hospital at Dover on Saturday, November 7, 2015.

A son of the late Homer and Daisy Johnson Boitnott, Homer was born on the family farm outside of New Philadelphia near Stone Creek on July 31, 1934.

Homer attended New Philadelphia High School and worked for Twin City Concrete prior to finding his passion and calling in life as a livestock buyer and transporter. For many years he owned and operated Boitnott’s Livestock and later began working for Cargill as a livestock buyer. Having never entered full retirement, he was still working three days a week for Cargill.

He also managed a number of rental properties and became close with many of his tenants through the years having become more like family to many of them, often attending various functions each of them held. He loved spending time with his own family; attending grandkids activities and sharing some of his favorite foods with each of them during special gatherings. His social network also included spending time at Atwood Lake, where time on his golf cart and visiting with others was always a special highlight.

Homer is survived by his three children, Tom (Joyce) Boitnott of New Philadelphia, Tami (Chris) Sefert of Dover, and Jason (Rebecca) Boitnott of Boulder, Colorado; his only surviving brother, Dean (Glenda) Boitnott of Stone Creek; nine grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Homer was preceded in death by seven siblings, Shirley, Connie, Mildred, Helen, Bryant, Ted and Ernie.

The family will greet guests on Thursday, November 12, 2015 from 5-7 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where Rev. Hugh B. Berry will lead a service celebrating Homer’s life in the funeral home’s chapel at 7PM. A meal and fellowship will follow in the Geib Family Center.

Homer was generous to many cancer foundations; the family requests those who wish to make a contribution in his name do so by directing memorial gifts to the American Cancer Society, 525 North Broad Street, Canfield, Ohio 44406.
