Hilda A. Humerickhouse

Hilda A. Humerickhouse, 91, formerly of Union Avenue, New Philadelphia, died at Union Hospital in Dover on Tuesday, December 30, 2003.Born January 21, 1912 in Kensington, OH, Hilda was the daughter of the late Chalmer A. and Anna L. Wehner Phillips. She was a graduate of Dover’s St. Joseph High School. Primarily a homemaker, Hilda worked for a time as a hairdresser. She was married to Clyde M. Humerickhouse, a Western & Southern Insurance agent in the area. Clyde preceded Hilda in death on September 30, 1972.Hilda was a devoted and active parish member of Sacred Heart Church.In addition to her parents and husband, Hilda was preceded in death by her sister, M. Gertrude Jones, owner of the former Jones Beauty Shop in downtown New Philadelphia. The two sisters were well-known for their stylish hats which they made themselves. Additionally, her brother, Leland Joseph Phillips and an infant sister are also deceased.Hilda is survived by a nephew, Jerry L. (Lola) Phillips of New Philadelphia.Visitation will be Friday afternoon, January 2, 2004, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM with the Christian Wake at 4:45 PM. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning, January 3, 2004 at 10:30 AM in Sacred Heart Church with Msgr. George J. Schlegel officiating. Burial alongside her husband Clyde will follow at East Avenue Cemetery.
