Herbert B. Stemple, 82, of New Philadelphia, died Friday, June 29, 2007 in the Union Hospital of Dover.A son of the late Robert and Verna Winkler Stemple, Herbert was born December 19, 1924 in Tuscarawas, O. and was a 1942 graduate of Tuscarawas High School. He proudly served our country during WWII as a decorated member of the Navy Air Corps. He served and patrolled in the Philippines, Formosa, Southern Coast of China, French Indo-China and Hanan Island as a squadron member of PB and PBY-42. Following the war he graduated from the Akron Trade Institute in 1947.Herbert was retired from the City of New Philadelphia where he operated heavy equipment for the Street Department. He had also formerly worked at Belden Brick, Warner Swasey and General Electric. He was a member of the First United Church of Christ in New Philadelphia, and had been active in the choir for many years. He had also served as a Deacon and Trustee at the church. Herbert was a member of the New Philadelphia Elks, the New Philadelphia American Legion and was a charter member of the World War II Memorial. He enjoyed golfing and fishing.He is survived by his wife, June Kinsey Stemple, whom he married July 24, 1948; a daughter, Jody (Melvin) Hren, of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Amy, and Victor, both of New Philadephia and John (Naomi) of Groten Ct.; a great granddaughter, Xenia, of New Philadelphia; aunt, Helen Hostetler, of New Philadelphia; brother-in-law, Floyd (Esther) Kinsey, nephew, Bill Kinsey and great niece and nephew, Landon and Jenna, all of Greensboro, NC.Friends and family are invited to the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia where visitation will be held Monday, July 2, 2007, from 1 to 3 pm and 6 to 8 pm. Reverend Jeff Gerber and Jill Lovett will officiate a service Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at 10 am in the First United Church of Christ. Burial will be in Union Cemetery at Port Washington where members of the New Philadelphia VFW, Post 1445 will provide military honors.
