May 19, 1951 — August 19, 2015

Helon Dalton Miller, Age 64, of Stone Creek, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 19, 2015, following a courageous battle with cancer, while in Union Hospital at Dover.

A son of Dalton Miller of Sugarcreek, and the late Bernice (Ledrich) Miller, Helon was born at Pomerene Hospital on May 19, 1951.

He was a 1970 graduate of Garaway High School and drove semi-truck for over 30 years, many of which were with Roadway Express, where he was awarded a Million Mile Safety Award and retired in 2013. Following his retirement, Helon worked part-time for Auburn Township.

He was a member of Union Hill United Methodist Church, the Tuscarawas County Bee Keepers Association and the Teamsters Local 24. In his free time, Helon enjoyed making wine, working on his family farm, going to breakfast with his father at Dutch Valley, spending time with friends and family, and gathering with many of them annually to make apple butter.

In addition to his father, Helon is survived by his wife of 43 years, the former Ann Perko, whom he married on January 8, 1972 in the former St. Theresa’s Catholic Church at Wainwright; their sons, Helon A. (Twila) Miller, and Aaron G. (Marley) Miller; three grandchildren, Joseph and Chloe Miller and Lucille Miller all of Sugarcreek.

Completing his family are his sister, Sierra “Sue” (Cliff Hattery) Long of Strasburg, and Mark (Kathy) Miller of Sugarcreek and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his mother, Helon was preceded in death by his grandmother, Edna Miller, with whom he shared a great deal of time, as well as his paternal grandfather and maternal grandparents.

The family will greet guests on Sunday, August 23, 2015, from 2:00 – 5:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service, celebrating Helon’s life will be held on Monday, August 24 at 10:00 AM in the Union Hill United Methodist Church at Sugarcreek.
