Helen Todd, 87, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, April 9, 2018 in Community Hospice Truman House at New Philadelphia following a period of declining health.
A daughter of the late Carl and Mary (Miller) Carruthers, Helen was born September 26, 1930 at New Philadelphia, Ohio.
Helen graduated from Freeport High School in 1948 and two years later, on December 10, 1950, she married the love of her life, Clark D. Todd. The couple were avid square dancers and were members of the Star Promenaders.
She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia, as well as a member of the Freeport Eastern Star Chapter #319. Helen enjoyed sewing, reading, completing crossword puzzles and crafting.
She is survived by her husband, Clark; her children, Mark D. Todd of Quantico, Virginia and Mary Lou (Michael) Lawver of New Philadelphia; her grandchildren, Amanda (Asar) Kwesi of Los Angeles, California, Joshua D. (Samantha) Todd of Dover and Brian Lawver of New Philadelphia; her great-grandchildren, Lucas D. Todd and Imari and Jabari Kwesi; a sister, Shirley Moreland of New Philadelphia; a brother, Paul Carruthers of Long, South Carolina; and multiple nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Max Moreland.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2018 from 5 to 8 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Helen’s life will be held on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 10 AM the funeral home with Pastor Jon Long officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Following the committal service, a luncheon will be held in Otterbein United Methodist Church.
