Helen Rose Cheslock, age 82, of New Philadelphia died peacefully early Thursday morning, August 22, 2013 with her family by her side while in the care of Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia.
Born at Dover, Ohio on January 15, 1931, Helen was a daughter of the late Julius and Mary (Gyurgyovics) Sullie.
She graduated high school from St. Joseph’s School at Dover and married the love of her life, Richard Cheslock on October 26, 1957. Prior to raising her family, Helen worked in the offices of the Timken Company at New Philadelphia and the former Reeves Steel at Dover.
Helen was a long-time member of Sacred Heart Church at New Philadelphia and enjoyed cross-stitch; often giving her works away as gifts. She also enjoyed working jigsaw and crossword puzzles as well as word finds and playing cards. Some of the other many joys in life were her weekly trips to Amish Country following her Thursday hair appointments and caring for her “grand-dog”, Bo.
She will be remembered by those who knew her best as a lover of nature. Helen was a fanatic of the countless cardinal birds that took up residency near her home and equally enjoyed the deer who did the same; as they knew a meal would always be provided by the abundance of bird feed she kept around the house. Additionally, Helen was known for her baking skills; more importantly, her Hungarian Cookies.
In addition to her husband of nearly 56 years, Helen will be missed by her three children, Laura (husband, Jeff) Spray of Green, Mike Cheslock of Columbus, and Brenda Cheslock of Strasburg and three grandsons, Scott Spray of Akron, Kevin Spray of Columbus, and Adam Spray also of Akron.
Completing the family are two sisters, Margaret Sullie and Joanne Sulllie both of Dover as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul, who died in infancy, and Carl Sullie.
The family will greet guests on Sunday, August 25, 2013, from 1:00 – 4:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Father Anthony Lonzo will lead a service celebrating Helen’s life in the funeral home’s chapel on Monday, August 26, 2013 at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia. Following services, all are invited to join the family for a time of food and fellowship in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the New Philadelphia funeral home.
Memorial contributions in Helen’s name may be directed to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 716 Commercial Avenue, SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
