Helen Norma Kamban

Helen Norma Kamban, age 84, of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, December 14, 2016 in Union Hospital at Dover following a lengthy period of declining health.

A daughter of the late Michael and Helen (Talaber) Chek, Helen was born at Roswell, Ohio on July 29, 1932.

She was a graduate of New Philadelphia High School and married Donald “Don” M. Kamban on June 10, 1951. Together the couple owned and operated Schoenbrunn Gardens and Landscaping, a company their family operates to this day.

Helen was a member of the First United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia. Together, she and Don shared a deep faith in the Lord which has inspired generations of their family to follow Christ. She greatly enjoyed wintering in Florida and Hawaii, listening to music, quilting, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband of 65 years, Helen is survived by their sons, Marty (Shirley) Kamban, Randy (Irene) Kamban, of New Philadelphia, Tim (Becky) Kamban of Dover; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews complete the family.

In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Robin Kamban, two brothers, John and Albert Chek and a sister, Goldie Davis.

The family will greet guests on Monday, December 19, 2016 from 11-1 PM in the First United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia where Rev. Jim Humphrey will lead a service celebrating Helen’s life at 1 PM. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Following services, all are invited to share in a meal and fellowship at the church.
