Helen Margaret Mathias, 94, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, November 15, 2004, at Hennis Care Centre in Dover.A daughter of the late William C. and Alice (Reis) Goettge, Helen was born December 14, 1909 in Dover, and was a 1927 graduate of New Philadelphia High School.Helen was a member of the First Christian Church in Dover. She enjoyed crocheting and sewing as well as watching the birds and squirrels around her home. She also devoted much of her time to her family.She is survived by a son, Donald W. Ball, Sr., of Dover; step-sons, Earl E. (Carol Ann) Mathias, Jr., of Columbus and Franklin Lee (Marilyn) Mathias of New Philadelphia; step-daughter, Mary Jo (Ted) Lyons of Troy; daughter-in-law, Barbara Ball of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Linda (Scott) Wendling of New Philadelphia, Debra (David) Pumphry of Strasburg, Susan (Todd) Barr of Bolivar, Don (Tania) Ball, Jr. of Brewster, Ed Ball, Sr. and his friend Sue of New Philadelphia and Sandra (Steve) Hardbarger of Newark; great-grandchildren, Hallie Wendling, Cady Williams, Mitchell Williams, Sarah Pumphry, Ella Pumphry, Nicholas Barr, Cameron Barr, Ed Ball Jr., Brittany Ball, Seth Newton, Erin Newton, Donald (Christa) Ball, III, Jacque Ball and Amber Ball; step-grandchildren, Stacy McDade of Urbana, Illinois, Scott (Jamie) Mathias of Strasburg, Mike (Pam) Lyons, Timothy Lyons of California, Amy Jones of Dayton, Cary (Ruzia) Mathias of Strongsville and Josh Kohl; step-great grandchildren, Tory McDade and Brianna Mathias; and one step great-great granddaughter Alexandra Fornier.She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl E. Mathias, Sr., with whom she shared 31 years of marriage before his death on March 18, 1990, a son, James L. Ball, and a sister Virginia Johnson.Visitation will be Tuesday, November 16, 2004, from 6-8pm at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia. Services will be conducted by Rev. Kenard Parrott on Wednesday at 10:30am in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia.
