Helen Mae Clements, 92, of New Philadelphia, passed away Monday morning, February 17, 2014 in New Dawn Retirement Community following a period of declining health.
Born February 24, 1921 in Uhrichsville, she was the daughter of the late Clyde Albert and Opal Ida (Laughlin) Frye.
After graduating from Uhrichsville High School in 1939, she worked at Ohio Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator for 10 years. Later, she worked part time at Bond’s Shoe Store in New Philadelphia.
Helen married her lifelong companion, the late Glenn Roy “Red” Clements on May 18, 1949. Together, their faith was nurtured at the First Christian Church in New Philadelphia, where she was a member of the Master Builders Class.
Helen enjoyed going to garage sales, sewing, crocheting, and reading. She was also a Cub Scout den mother for Pack 82.
Helen’s family includes her children, Gay-Lynn Clements of New Philadelphia and Randall “Randy” (Linda) Clements of Dover; her grandchildren, Jonathan Wheeler, Jason (Lisa) Wheeler, Michael (Tabitha) Johnson, Gregory (Samantha) Clements, and Joshua (Stephanie) Clements; her sister, Juanita Goodwin of Bolivar; 5 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents and her husband Red who passed away on October 3, 2000, Helen was preceded in death by her infant son, Gregory Glenn; her brother, Clyde “Bud” Frye; and her sisters, Velma DeSerio, and Maxine Ruffini.
Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Sunday, February 23 from 2 to 4 p.m. A service celebrating Helen’s life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Monday at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jim Borton officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will follow in East Avenue Cemetery.
A meal prepared by Helen’s church family will be shared in the Geib Family Center, located adjacent to the funeral home, following the committal service.
