Helen L. Denison

Helen L. Denison, 77, of New Philadelphia, died Sunday, February 25, 2018 in Union Hospital at Dover following a period of declining health.

Helen was born July 17, 1940 at Canton, Ohio and was raised by her foster parents, Lauren and Bessie Ake, from the time she was three years old.

Helen cherished her family and friends and she believed that they were blessings from the Lord.  She enjoyed caring for her children throughout the years and also enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s events.  Helen also enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, reading Christian Books, knitting and crocheting.

She had a love for animals and had many pets over the years.  Helen also operated a pet grooming business out of her home for more than ten years.  Helen also taught Driver’s Education courses at AAA.  Following her retirement, she became active with Broadway United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia and especially enjoyed the UMC Prayer Chain and Wednesday Evening Prayer group.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Tim Larkin of Dover; her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Gretchen Denison of Bloomingburg, Ohio; her grandchildren, Joshua Larkin of Dover, Andrea (Michael) Ramage of Dover and Trevor Denison of Bloomingburg, Ohio; two brothers, Donald (Audrey) Heflin of Dalton and Dick Heflin of Massillon; many nieces and nephews and a special son and caregiver, Frank Larkin of New Philadelphia.

Helen was preceded in death by her adoptive parents; infant twins, Dale and Leora Denison and the father of her children, Marvin Denison.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2018 from 10 to 11 a.m. in Broadway United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia.  A funeral service celebrating Helen’s life will follow at 11 a.m. in the church with Rev. Mick Foster officiating.  Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.  Following the committal service, a luncheon will be held in the fellowship hall at the church.
