Helen Huff Kinsey Gerbetz, age 92, of New Philadelphia went to be with her Lord on Friday, April 20, 2012 at Lewis Center, OH, in the home of her daughter, Jayne Kinsey Harmon.
She was born September 4, 1919 at Warren, OH, to the late Clayton and Mary Margaret (Crile) Huff and grew up on farms at Warren and Baltic, OH.
She was salutatorian of her Baltic High School class in 1937 and graduated from the Canton Actual Business College. Helen worked as a secretary at Stone Creek Brick Co. before marrying William Irvin Kinsey II in 1942, who died in an industrial accident in 1972. In 1976, she married Robert Stephen Gerbetz and celebrated more than 30 years of marriage prior to his death in 2008.
Helen loved her family and was a very active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church at New Philadelphia, and the Union Grange. Always giving of her time, she volunteered for a number of years for Browse & Buy at New Philadelphia for the Tuscarawas Hospice Society. Additionally, she loved watching her two favorite television shows, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy as well as playing cards and games and was often hard to beat.
She will be sadly missed by her five children: Kay (Ernie) Orr of Maryland, David Michael (Linda) Kinsey Sr. of New Philadelphia, Jayne (Arno) Harmon, Beth (Jake) Swauger of North Carolina and Mark Irvin Kinsey of Stonecreek, OH; her grandchildren, Greg Orr and Susan Orr Lowe of Maryland, David Michael Kinsey, Jr. of Bolivar, Matthew Kinsey of New Philadelphia, Jon Harmon and Kim Harmon Eisenman of Columbus, Dylan Kinsey who is currently serving in Afghanistan, and Olivia Kinsey of Dover
Thirteen great-grandchildren, her sister Emma Caroline Huff Wolf of Michigan and seven step-children and grandchildren complete the family.
In addition to her parents, first husband and second husband, Helen is preceded in death by two brothers Paul John Huff, and Donald Clayton Huff of Dover; sisters Ruth Huff Doll and Elizabeth Huff Walker Newberry and a grandson Brian Andrew Kinsey.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 22, 2012 from 1:00 – 4:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where Church Council Services will commence at 3:45 PM. An additional hour of visitation will be held on Monday, April 23, 2012 from 10:00 – 11:00 AM in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church at New Philadelphia where Rev. Hugh B. Berry will lead a service celebrating Helen’s life at 11:00 AM.
Burial will follow in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Following the service, all are invited to a reception gathering in the church social hall where a meal and fellowship will be shared.
