Helen K. Friley, age 92 of Hennis Care Center at Bolivar and formerly of Mineral City, died peacefully, Thursday, September 5, 2013 following a period of declining health.
Born at Sherrodsville, Ohio on August 17, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Ruben and Helen (Kennedy) Haney.
She was a graduate of the former Sherrodsville School and a former member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church where she sang weekly with a trio, played the piano and was an active member of the women’s hospitality ministry. She also attended New Cumberland United Methodist Church.
She loved being out of doors and enjoyed gardening, bird watching, horseback riding, and canning the goods from her garden. Additionally, she was a long-time member of the Home Demonstration craft group.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan (Richard) Smith of Mineral City, Helen Johns of Comer, Georgia; six grandchildren, Sarah Chambers, Arthur Tschantz both of Mineral City, Helen Ortiz, Dustin Johns, Joshua Johns, and Will Johns all of Georgia and five great-grandchildren, Jacob, Austin, Keira, Helen and Samuel.
Completing the family are a brother, Bill (Lou) Haney of Mineral City; a sister, Greta (Jim) Leiser of Sandyville as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by a son, Arthur Friley; two sisters, Norma Cunningham and Wilda Humphries and three brothers, Joe Haney, Donald Haney and Marvin Haney.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 8, 2013, from 2:00 – 3:00 PM in the Maranatha Bible Church, 6097 State Route 212, Somerdale, Ohio 44678. Pastor Richard Harvey will lead a service celebrating Helen’s life on Sunday at 3:00 PM. Immediately following the service, all are invited to join the family in the church’s social hall for a time of food and fellowship. Private burial will take place in Ridgecrest Memorial Gardens.
