Helen Maye Haney, 94, of Dover and formerly of New Philadelphia, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2014 following a period of declining health.
Born August 20, 1920 in New Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Douthitt Severn and Carrie Johnson (Elmer) Swank.
After graduating from New Philadelphia High School in 1939, Helen married her late husband, William F. Haney, on October 20, 1943. Together they were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Karen.
Helen’s professional career as a banking branch manager spanned 28 years at Banc Ohio prior to her retirement. She was also a member of the Business & Professional Women.
Her faith was nurtured at the First United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia where she was a faithful member for numerous years. She also had a love for making quilts, collecting plates, and most importantly, enjoying time with her family, grandchildren, and grand-nieces.
She will be deeply missed by her daughter, Karen (Doug) Horning of Uniontown; her granddaughter Abby (Sean) Jones ; her great-grandson, Michael Fisher; two nieces, Nancy Baker and Beth (Pete) Franz; her great-niece, Devon Franz; faithful cousins, Kenny Weber, Carolyn (Dave) Renicker, and Nancy Scaffidi; and her special friend, Don Stephan.
In addition to her parents, her step-father, and her husband, she was preceded in death by her twin sister, Anna Mae (Bob) Knisely; two brothers, Leroy and Eugene Severn; and two step-sisters.
Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. A service celebrating Helen’s life will be held in the funeral home’s chapel on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. with The Rev. Jim Humphry officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Friends are invited to the First United Methodist Church following the committal service where Helen’s church family will host a luncheon.
