Hazel M. Swanson

Hazel M. Swanson, 90, of New Philadelphia, and formerly of North Bay Road in Tappan Lake, died Wednesday, December 4, 2002 at New Dawn Health Care Center in Dover following an extended illness.Born in Marion, she was the daughter of the late Ira O. and Cora Fairchild Millisor. She was a graduate of Harding High School, the Bethesda Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati and had received her bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Case Western Reserve in Cleveland. Hazel retired from the Parma City School District where she had worked as a school nurse and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia, the Bethesda Hospital Nurses Alumni and the Ohio Nurse’s Association.Surviving is her husband, Charles A. Swanson, whom she married March 28, 1959; a stepdaughter, Cheryl (William) Graham of New Philadelphia; a stepson, James Aubrey (Betty Jo) Gatewood of Franklinton, LA; three grandchildren, Jo Beth and Kenny Gatewood and Christie Graham and a foster grandson, Ron Barker. A grandson, Chip Graham and a brother are deceased.Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 8, 2002 at 3 PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia with Dr. Steven R. Bailey officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday from 1 to 3 PM in the funeral home. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Quaker Foundation, Chip Graham Scholarship Fund, 343 Ray Avenue NW, New Philadelphia, Ohio, 44663.
