Hazel B. Gerber, 86, of Dover, died Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at Park Village Health Care Center, following a lengthy illness.A daughter of the late Arthur and Laura Ross Reese, Hazel was born in Cleveland, O. August 30, 1919.She was a 1937 graduate of John Hay High School, in Cleveland and had worked for Bell Telephone prior to her marriage.Hazel was an active woman who volunteered for many years at Union Hospital, she also volunteered with the Salvation Army doll fundraising and Hospice of Tuscarawas County. She was a member of the Dover Historical Society, The First Moravian Church, and the Union Country Club. Hazel enjoyed sports, especially golfing, tennis, bowling, and swimming. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, had formerly served on the altar guild of Grace Lutheran Church and had been a scout leader for many years.She is survived by her husband, William R. “Bill” Gerber; whom she married on December 26, 1942; a daughter, Shirley M. Krutulis, of Columbus, O.; a son, Robert R. “Bob” (Jane) Gerber, of New Philadelphia; a daughter, Virginia A. (Todd) Whetstone, of Hudson, O.; grandchildren, Jonathan W. Gerber, of Las Vegas, NV, David R. Gerber, of Huntington Beach, CA., and Kelly G., Jenna N. and Rachel M. Chippendale, all of Hudson.In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Reese, and a sister, Jeannette Reese.Visitation will be held Saturday, May 13, 2006, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, May 15, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. in the Geib Funeral Center with Rev. Allen Bergmann officiating. Burial will be at Dover Burial Park. A memorial reception will be held in the Hospitality Room at the Geib Funeral Center following the committal.Memorial contributions in memory of Hazel may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
