Harry William Metzger

Harry William Metzger, 86, of New Philadelphia, died Sunday, March 23, 2014 in Schoenbrunn Health Care at New Philadelphia following a period of declining health.

A son of the late William Addison “Babe” Metzger and the late Mona Leona (Hilton) Metzger, Harry was born September 14, 1927 at Tuscarawas, Ohio.

Harry was a 1946 graduate of Tuscarawas-Warwick High School and retired as an insurance investigator. Following his retirement he had worked as a security officer.

He is survived by his sons, Rev. William A. Metzger of West Jefferson, Ohio, Bruce A. (Debra) Metzger of New Philadelphia and Richard J. “Dick” Metzger of Columbus, Ohio; three grandchildren, Jessica (Jason) Hartley of Palm Coast, Florida, Stephanie Metzger of Atlanta, Georgia and Christopher Metzger of Dover; two sisters, Jean (Ed) Cochran of Tuscarawas and Shirley Kleski of New Philadelphia and several nieces and nephews.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents, a twin sister, Hilda Johnson and a sister, Betty Reymond.

In keeping with Harry’s wishes there will be no calling hours or services and cremation will take place through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.
