Harold L Lahmers

Harold Lee “Hal” Lahmers, age 83, of New Philadelphia and formerly of Stone Creek, died Thursday, April 10, 2025, in Oak Pointe Nursing and Rehab Center at Baltic, following a period of declining health.

Born on the family farm in Stone Creek on October 4, 1941, Hal was a son of the late Walter Herman and Emma Caroline “Emmaline” Cronebach Lahmers.

He was a 1959 graduate of the former Stone Creek School and served his country during the Vietnam War as a member of the United States Army.

Hal’s life centered around farming, having worked his family’s sheep and beef cattle farm for many years and talked about farm life right up to the end, always asking his family about the happenings around the farm. However, at a young age, he and his new bride, the former Judy McMillin, whom he wed on July 26, 1968, ventured to Fairbanks, Alaska, where Hal worked for the city for the first nine years of their marriage. He was later employed as a maintenance supervisor for Marsh Lumber and worked as an excavator for Jim Boltz and K. Hovanian Homes.

As a couple, Hal and Judy’s faith was nurtured at Shanesville Lutheran Church. He enjoyed his special pets throughout the years, always keeping a dog as a “farm hand” and caring for Webster, the family’s donkey. He was also an avid lifelong fan of the Cleveland Indians.

In addition to his wife of 56 years, Judy, Hal is survived by his siblings, Bob (Geneva) Lahmers of Cambridge, Jerry (Rita) Lahmers of Newcomerstown, Patty (Richard) Arth of Newcomerstown, Jennifer (Cliff) Brown of Scio, two sisters-in-law, Patty McMillin of Brimfield and Dorothy Lahmers of Newcomerstown, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

In addition to his parents, Hal is preceded in death by a brother, Charles “Sonny” Lahmers, and a sister-in-law, Marla Kay Lahmers.

The family will greet guests on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, from 9:30 – 11:30 AM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover, where Pastor Barb Debord will lead a service celebrating Hal’s life at 11:30 AM. Immediately following the service, a luncheon and fellowship will be shared in the Dover Geib Center’s Hospitality Room. A burial service with military honors will take place in the Stone Creek Cemetery on Wednesday at 2:30 PM.

Hal’s family would like to extend a special thank you to all those involved with his care throughout his illness: The Cleveland Clinic Staff, nursing home staffs, family members, and neighbors, and a special thank you to Jane Grimm for her extra time and care.

Instead of floral tributes, the family requests memorial contributions be directed to Jefferson Township Cemetery Fund, 102 N Bridge Street, Stone Creek, Ohio 43840; Shanesville Lutheran Church, 1006 W Main St, Sugarcreek, Ohio 44681, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
