Harold E. Hensel, 85, of New Philadelphia passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017 in his home at New Philadelphia.
A son of the late Thurlow and Sylvia (Legett) Hensel, Harold was born October 13, 1931 at Barnhill, Ohio.
Harold graduated from Midvale High School in 1949 and went on to attend Otterbein University. In 1952 he joined the United States Army and served in the Korean War. Upon his discharge, Harold worked at Greer Steel as a high lift driver for 35 years.
Harold was a lifetime member of the New Philadelphia Elks #510, the American Legion and the New Philadelphia VFW Post #1445. He enjoyed golf, sleigh rides, bowling, skiing, western history and jazz music. He also loved his time spent with his family, especially suppers together around the table and Christmas mornings. His biggest joy in life came from supporting his grandson in all walks of life.
Harold is survived by his two children, Kevin Clapper and Karis (Donald) Crites; a grandson, Kolton (April) Crites; nephews, Rob (Cherie) Hensel and Mark Hensel; a niece, Jan (Tod) Hecht; two great-nieces, Jodi (Aaron) Baxter and Sandie Hensel; a great- nephew, Grant Hensel; sister-in-law, Kay Hensel; his dog, Heidi and his close friends, Ronnie (Marti) MacCahill and Kenny (Carol) Murphy.
In addition to his parents, Harold is preceded in death by his wife, Caroline (Albaugh) Hensel; his brother, Robert Hensel and an infant son.
In keeping with Harold’s wishes there will be no public calling hours. A memorial graveside service will be held Friday, May 26, 2017 at 10:30 AM in the Holmes Church Cemetery at New Philadelphia with Pastor Lyle Warren officiating. Burial will follow in the Holmes Church Cemetery.
