Harold D. Gridley, 93, of Dover and formerly of Hudson, Ohio, died Thursday, February 21, 2019 in Community Hospice Truman House at New Philadelphia.
Born in Twinsburg, he was the son of the late Floyd and Dorothy Matti Gridley and had served with the US Army in Europe during WWII, having taken part in both the D-Day Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. After his discharge, Harold began his career in law enforcement and eventually had retired as the Chief of Police for the city of Hudson.
On June 8, 1946, Harold married the former Marjorie Way and together had celebrated 70 years of marriage before her passing in 2016. Surviving are two daughters, Connie (George) Thompson of Carrollton and Pamela Walling of Naples, Florida; a son, Brian Gridley of Dover; and eight grandchildren, James Keenan, Amy (Patrick) Bowers, Shane (LeaAnn) Thompson, Carrie (Paul) McNutt, Kelly Walling, Justin Gridley, Brandon Gridley and Brian Roger Gridley.
A daughter, Judith Garrison; and two brothers, Donald Gridley and Floyd Gridley are also deceased.
In keeping with his wishes, Harold is to be cremated through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Cremation Service at Dover, Ohio. No services are to be scheduled.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Community Hospice Truman House, 716 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
