Harold David Hanlon, age 70, of Sherrodsville, Ohio died Thursday, July 9, 2009, in his home with his family by his side. A son of the late Harold C. and Kathryn N. (Martin) Hanlon, David, as he was known by his family and friends, was born at New Matamoras, Ohio on June 14, 1939.David was a 1957 graduate of Midvale High School. Out of high school, he entered into the United States Navy where he served a period of time aboard the USS Walke and also served multiple tours of duty in Vietnam. Following more than twelve years of service with the Navy, David completed the final eight years of his career with the National Guard.David was a long-time employee of Superior Meats at Massillon, Ohio and the Pepsi-Cola Company at New Philadelphia. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed spending time working on his flower gardens that surrounded his home. David also loved bird watching and sitting outside in his gazebo during the summer months.He was a wonderful husband and father to his blended family that includes his wife, Jane Murphy-Hanlon, and children Michelle (Brad) Moore of Tuscarawas, Jason Malterer of New Philadelphia, Kellie Murphy of New York, New York, and Scott (Pam) Murphy of Columbus.A sister, Kay (Jack) Walton of Goshen and a brother, Donald (Bonnie) Hanlon of Laurel, Maryland; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Helen Rosenberry of Dover; five grandchildren, Christopher Grimes, Kayleigh Moore, Nicholas Moore, Timothy Murphy and Kacey Murphy and numerous nieces and nephews complete the family.In keeping with David’s wishes, there were no public services. Cremation care was handled through Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory at Dover. The United States Navy will conduct a burial at sea service at a later date.
