Harold A. Haney, age 82, of New Philadelphia, went to heaven Tuesday, April 7, 2009, in Union Hospital at Dover following a period of declining health.A son of the late Jesse and Mary (Koutch) Haney, Harold was born on November 6, 1926, at New Cumberland.Harold served as a member of the United States Navy during World War II. On June 17, 1950, Harold married the love of his life; the former Rena Jean Patrick. Together the couple reared four children.Harold was not a stranger to hard work. For many years while raising his family he often held two jobs to make ends meet. In 1988 he retired from Marlite at Dover following 39 years of service with the company. As a man who was always willing to lend a hand to those in need, Harold could often be found working in his garage on various projects or working under the hood of a car to fix any number of mechanical breakdowns. In addition to working in his garage, Harold enjoyed spending time manicuring his lawn and tending to his garden.Time spent with family was also an important aspect of Harold’s life as he always looked forward to spending time with all of them at gatherings and cookouts. For many years, Harold was an active member of the Dover VFW, the former New Philadelphia Eagles and Moose clubs as well as the Dover Eagles and the Army-Navy Garrison. He also found great joy in spending time with his wife as the couple helped to organize and participate in card clubs and parties over the years. He also attended The Christian Lighthouse Church at New Philadelphia until his health would no longer allow him to travel outside of the home. In addition to his wife of fifty-eight years, Harold is survived by his children, a daughter, Debbie Benjamin and her husband, Bill, of Dover, sons, Dannie Haney of New Philadelphia, and Rod Haney and his wife, Debbie, of Beach City, and a daughter, Beckie Haakinson and her husband, Jack, of New Philadelphia; and a sister, Doris Adams of Mineral City.Eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren complete the family.In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald and Harry Haney; and four sisters, Jane Krantz, Mary Gintz, Bonnie Viola, and Carrie Haney.The family will receive friends on Friday, April 10, 2009 from 4:00 â?? 7:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Kermit Hall will lead a service celebrating Harold’s life on Saturday, April 11, 2009, at 11:00 AM in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow in the New Cumberland Cemetery. Following the services, the family wishes to invite guests to join them in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home, where a meal and fellowship will be shared.Memorial contributions in Harold’s name may be made to The Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, New York 10018 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
