Hans C. Heuser

June 20, 1911 — June 28, 2013

Hans C. Heuser, age 102, of Country Club Retirement Center at Dover and formerly of Parma, died peacefully, Friday evening, June 28, 2013.

A son of the late Karl and Lina (Saalborn) Heuser, Hans was born on June 20, 1911 in Erfurt, Germany. At a young age, Hans, his mother, and sister immigrated to the United States, arriving at Hoboken New Jersey, and made their way to Cleveland, Ohio where their father had previously arrived to establish a residence for the family.

He began working for the former Clark’s restaurant at Parma as a bus boy and over the years worked his way up to became the restaurant’s manager. Hans served Clark’s for more than 30 years prior to becoming employed by the city of Parma and retired following several years of service.

Hans faithfully attended Good Shepherd United Methodist Church at Parma during the time he resided in the area. Additionally, Hans and his late wife, Ruby, loved traveling and were fortunate enough to have traveled 48 of 50 states, including Alaska and Hawaii.

Throughout his many years, Hans was fortunate enough to see many technological advances and enjoyed watching the nightly news where he kept up on local and world events.

Hans was best known, however, for his love of being outdoors and being a model train enthusiast. During his younger years, his model train collection took up a large part of his basement and as he grew older and settled into life at Country Club, family friend, Wade Maurer, constructed a downsized running train track table that was a prominent fixture in his room.

For the past several years, as a resident of Country Club, he became a well-known and liked individual who was respected by not only the staff and residents but by those who came to visit others. As the facility’s unofficial “Greeter” his sense of humor and kindness earned him the nickname of “The Governor”.

He will be missed by all but especially the family he leaves behind, a daughter, Donna (Robert) Allison of New Philadelphia; two granddaughters, who affectionately knew him as Opa, Dana (Steve) Atwood of New Philadelphia and Dawn (Sean) White of Newcomerstown and a great-grandson, Owen Hans-Douglas White.

In addition to his parents, Hans was preceded in death by his wife, the former Ruby Kortz, and his sister, Margaret Dietz.

A graveside service celebrating Hans’ life will be led by Pastor Robert Kuntz on Friday, July 5, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Strongsville Cemetery. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory.

Those wishing to do so may send the family a personal condolence and light a candle in remembrance of Hans by visiting the funeral home’s website at www.GeibCares.com.
