Haldene Fern Davis, 87, of New Philadelphia, died Friday, February 05, 2010 in Schoenbrunn Healthcare at New Philadelphia following a period of declining health.A daughter of the late Louis and Sue (Schumacher) Spence, Haldene was born October 26, 1922 at Warwick Township,, Ohio.Haldene attended the former Ninevah School house in the Goshen area before attending school in Pittsburgh and graduating from Uhrichsville High School in 1940. She was a member of Sharon Moravian Church. Haldene enjoyed traveling and writing poetry and was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan. Most of all, she cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was always sure to bring a smile to her family members faces with her wonderful sense of humor.She is survived by her husband, Carl Duane Davis whom she married on May 13, 1943; two daughters, Cristene (Tim) McCarthy of New Philadelphia and Melissa (Rick) Baker of Bolivar; a son, Mark (Rhonda) Davis of New Philadelphia; her grandchildren, Shawn (Donna) McCarthy of Dover, Kathleen (Jason) Celce of North Canton, Jason (Kathryn) Lehigh of Pataskala, amber (Jay) Hunker of Kernersville, North Carolina, Dylan Flickinger of Bolivar and Carly (Jeff) Positano of New Philadelphia and her great grandchildren, Chelsea (Zac) Creager of Dover, Markie Kate, Alyson and Alexis McCarthy, Tyler, Brennen and Connor Celce, Olivia, Charlie and Simon Lehigh, Jakob, Makenzie, Gabrielle, Jarrett and Sophie Hunker and Riley Positano.Haldene was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Craig McCarthy and a brother, Gene Spence.The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 7, 2010 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Haldene’s life will be held on Monday, February 8, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel with Pastor Larry Fletcher. Burial will follow in Sharon Moravian Church Cemetery at Tuscarawas. A memorial reception will be held in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia following the committal service.Contributions may be made in Haldene’s memory to the Craig M.
