Gwendoline E. Miller, age 83 of Dover, died early Thursday morning, January 31, 2013, in her residence following a brief illness.
A daughter of the late Raymond and Ados (Bates) Blackwell, Gwen was born at New Philadelphia, on August 15, 1929.
Gwen attended New Philadelphia High School and worked at a period of time at the former Leggett’s Restaurant and the A&W Rootbeer Stand. On Valentine’s Day, 1948, She married Joseph M. Miller and together the couple reared six children and shared in 44 years of marriage prior to his death on November 30, 1992.
A long-time member of Church of Christ at New Philadelphia, Gwen enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, making sure they were always well fed. She was also known for her baking of special treats, especially pies and working crossword puzzles from the daily newspaper.
She will be missed by her children, Joseph “Marty” (Cinda) Miller of Dover, David (Rosette) Miller, Thomas (Debbie) Miller, Danny Miller all of New Philadelphia, and Jonathan (Robin) Miller of Dover; four sisters, Zelma (Sam) Shook of New Philadelphia and Mona (T.R) Runions, Vera (Russell) Runions, and Marsha (Tom) Runions all of Tennesee and a brother, Bethel (Pat) Blackwell of Texas.
Seventeen grandchildren, Joey, Heather, Kevin, Ricky, Bryan, Ryan, Kristin, Danny, Timmy, Betsy, Sandy, Brock, Jenny, Mark, Jessica, Nathan and Logan; 27 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews complete the family.
In addition to her parents and husband, Gwen was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Melinda and Richard Vickers; a granddaughter, Angel; a sister, Arlene Brown, and four brothers, Gene, Timmy, Steve, and Donald Blackwell.
The family will receive guests on Sunday, February 3, 2013, from 2:00 – 5:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A service celebrating Gwen’s life will be led by Minister Tim Hatfield on Monday, February 4, 2013 at 10:30 AM in the Church of Christ at New Philadelphia. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Following services all are invited to share in a meal and fellowship in the church’s social hall.
