Guy Richard Cathcart

Guy Richard, “Rick” Cathcart, age 58 of Charleston, South Carolina died Friday, September 18, 2009, in Hospice of Charleston at Mount Pleasant, South Carolina following a brief illness.Born in Laurel, Mississippi on October 10, 1950, Rick was a son of Guy and Kate Cathcart, who reside in New Philadelphia, Ohio.Rick obtained his Doctorate in Biochemistry from Case Western Reserve University at Cleveland, Ohio in 1980 and pursued post-doctoral research at University of California, Berkeley. After working many years in the Biotech industry in California, Rick retired from Incyte Pharmaceuticals and relocated to Charleston, South Carolina in 2003. Rick held memberships with the Episcopal Church and the Kiwanis of CharlestonIn addition to his parents, Rick is survived by a sister, Martha Maxwell of Sterling Heights, Michigan; a brother, David, his wife Sheri Cathcart of Raytown, Missouri, and his former wife and longtime friend, Patricia Cathcart of Charleston, South Carolina.Three nieces, Amanda Maxwell, Elizabeth Maxwell, and Amber Cathcart as well as a nephew, David Jordan Cathcart, complete the family.Rick was preceded in death by both of his maternal and paternal grandparents.In keeping with Rick’s wishes his body will be cremated.
