Guy Henry Cathcart

Guy Henry Cathcart, age 90, of New Philadelphia, passed away April 8, 2015, in his home following a period of declining health.

Born August 27, 1924 in Laurel, Mississippi, Guy was the son of the late Guy Ervin and Pauline (Becker) Cathcart.

After graduating from high school, Guy began his Mechanical Engineering Degree at Mississippi State University. Two years later, he entered the United States Air force and honorably served his country during World War II. Following his discharge, Guy returned to Mississippi State and completed his degree.

For 40 years, Guy worked as a Mechanical Engineer and ultimately retired from US Gypsum/Marlite in February of 1988. Professionally, Guy was a member of the Tuscarawas County, Ohio State, and National Societies of Professional Engineers, as well as the American Society of Plant Engineers.

Guy was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church, and served on the board of directors for the Tuscarawas County YMCA, where he was recently honored with the Leo Polan Award for distinguished service.

Guy will be deeply missed by his wife of 65 years, Kate Cathcart; children, Martha (Doug) Anderson of New Baltimore, Michigan and David (Sheri) Cathcart of Raytown, Missouri; his former daughter-in-law, Pat Soltis Cathcart of Avon, Ohio; grandchildren, Amanda (Matt) Guigar, Elizabeth (David) Flores, Amber Cathcart, and David (Lauren) Cathcart; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Alexis, Isabella, and Silas.

In addition to his parents, Guy was preceded in death by a son, Richard Carthcart.

The family will greet guests on Saturday, April 11, 2015, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where Pastor Brian Flood will lead a service celebrating Guy’s life in the funeral home’s chapel at 11:00 AM. Immediately following the service, members of the New Philadelphia VFW will render military honors. A meal and fellowship will follow in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home.
