Gregory Lee Wood, age 48, of New Philadelphia died Monday, November 21, 2016 in his residence following a brief illness.
A son of the late Richard L. Wood and JoEllen Scott, Greg was born in Union Hospital at Dover on July 15, 1968.
He was a member of New Philadelphia High School’s class of 1986. He formerly worked for the City of New Philadelphia and most recently had been employed by Allstate-Peterbilt at New Philadelphia. Within the past months, Greg had successfully completed his CDL-A certification through Roadmaster Driving School in preparation of becoming an over the road driver.
Greg was a member of the New Philadelphia AmVets and an avid fan of the New York Yankees and The Ohio State Buckeyes. He enjoyed golfing, and spending time with his friends.
He is survived by his son, Richard Nathan (Samantha) Chitti; his siblings, Deb Smitley and Michael Wood both of New Philadelphia; his granddaughter, Emah Chitti; his nephew, Cory Wood; his best friends, Mike and Pim Fisher and Scott Mattevi; his beloved dog, Ted Ginn, Jr. and numerous extended family members.
In addition to his parents, Greg was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Jesse Smitley.
A graveside service celebrating Greg’s life will be led by Pastor Brian Flood on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 10 AM in the East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia. Following the graveside service a gathering will be hosted in the New Philadelphia VFW.
