Gregory E. Erb

Gregory E. Erb, 71, a fierce patriot and God-loving American, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on January 20, 2024, under the care of Community Hospice. 

Born November 4, 1952, he was the son of the late Melvin L. and Thelma Marie (Beitzel) Erb.

After graduating from New Philadelphia High School in 1971, Greg continued his education at Kent State University Tuscarawas and the University of Akron, where he studied political science and engineering, respectively. 

Greg served in a variety of professional roles throughout his lifetime including former Mayor of New Philadelphia from 1996 to 1999 and served as a project engineering manager with Keithley Instruments. He also had a passion for music, spending time as a musician and producer. Prior to retirement, Greg was the former director of engineering and manufacturing at IOtech, Inc.

Greg was a proud member of the NRA and was a former member of the B.P.O.E #510 and Masonic Lodge. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, Kimberly J. Hawk Erb of New Philadelphia; Greg is survived by his daughter, Jessica (husband, Randy) Pierson of Columbus; grandchildren, Harper and Addie Rose Pierson; his daughter, Sarah Eva (husband, Chris) Kimble of Bucyrus; grandchildren, Atticus and Prudence Kimble; his mother-in-law, M. Phyllis Hawk of New Philadelphia; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Greg was preceded in passing by parents; his beloved son, Daniel Gregory Erb on June 23, 2017; and his father-in-law, James C. Hawk.

Memorial visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Thursday, January 25, 2024 from 9 to 11 a.m. with a service beginning at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Private inurnment will take place at a later time beside his son, Daniel.
