Gregory Allen Zesiger

Gregory Allen Zesiger, 71, of New Philadelphia, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2021 in Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital at Dover following a period of declining health.

A son of Jane (Ellwood) Zesiger and the late Howard Zesiger, Greg was born August 25, 1949 at Dover, Ohio.

Greg graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1967. On August 3, 1969, he married the love of his life, the former Linda Stull and the couple raised a daughter, Nichole.

In his younger years, Greg was employed at I.F. Manufacturing until its closing. He was then employed by various foundries in the Canton area and ultimately retired in 2002 from Allied Machine at Dover.

Greg was an avid fisherman and he enjoyed watching NASCAR. He also enjoyed range shooting at the Tusco Rifle Club.

He is survived by his mother, Jane of New Philadelphia; his wife of 51 years, Linda; his daughter and son-in-law, Nichole and Chad Merkel of New Philadelphia; his granddaughter, Quinn Merkel; his sisters, Susan (Kent) Watson of Dover, Amy (Brad) Bucher of Dundee; a brother, Jeff (Kathy) Zesiger of Palataka, Florida; many nieces and nephews; a special cousin, Tammy (Bill) Eckert of New Philadelphia and his lifelong friends, Greg (Cheryl) Fuhrer of Copley, Ohio and Larry (Kay) Whitlach of Dover.

In keeping with Greg’s wishes, cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held on Friday, April 23, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia with Rev. Jon Long and Pastor Bill Eckert officiating. Inurnment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Degenhard and the staff at DaVita Dialysis Care as well as to the ICU Nurses at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion for Greg.
