Gregory A. Lamonica, 52, of New Philadelphia, died Thursday evening, July 31, 2003 following a brave battle with cancer. Greg was born in Dover on July 9, 1951 to Edna M. Martin Lamonica and the late Leonard “Buck” Lamonica. He graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1969 and shortly thereafter went to work at Marlite. Later he worked for Handy & Harmon which eventually became Epic. On March 3, 1974, Greg married Becky Talbott, who survives. Along with Becky, Greg was a member of Sacred Heart Church. He enjoyed working in his yard and on projects at home as well as going fishing. He also liked watching the Cleveland Browns and Indians and was a fierce fan of the Massillon High School “Tigers”. Greg loved traveling with Becky to Myrtle Beach and spending time with their dog, “Buster”. Besides Becky and his mother Edna, Greg is survived by three aunts, Pauline Tylka of New Philadelphia, Carmy Margo of Strasburg and Jean Avon of New Philadelphia; mother-in-law, Nina Talbott of Mansfield; sisters-in-law, Terri and Lee Sampson of Mansfield and Beverlee Harig of Massillon; special cousins, Debbie Avon and Becky Tylka, both of New Philadelphia and Tim and Vicki Avon of Strasburg; two God-sons, Justin Sampson and Brandon Tylka, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his father “Buck” Lamonica, Greg was preceded in death by his grandparents, father-in-law Hayward Talbott and several aunts and uncles. Visitation will be Monday, August 4, 2003 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home with a wake service at 8:30. The funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at 12:30 PM in Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Fr. William L. Arnold officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, New Philadelphia. After the cemetery committal, a meal will be shared in the Geib Family Center.
