Gordon Hugh Selden

59, of Bolivar, died early Monday morning, March 5, 2012 in his home following a short battle with cancer.
A son of the late Wilbur and Mary (Garvie) Selden, Gordon was born April 17, 1952 at Hudson, Ohio. Gordon graduated from Lake High School in 1970 and was employed at Airfasco Industries at Canton where he worked as a Sales Manager. He was an avid fisherman and spent many days at Leesville Lake in search of the big muskie. Gordon was serving as the President of Akron/Canton Muskies Inc. Chapter #19 and was also a member of the Ohio Huskie Muskie Club. Gordon was a member of the First United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia and was a past president of the Bolivar Baseball/Softball Association, a position he held for more than 17 years.
Gordon is survived by his loving wife, Brenda (Briggs) Selden, whom he married on Sept. 21, 1985; his children, Cortney (Joel) Goodwin of Dover, Ryan Selden and Stacy (Tyler) Rippel, both of Bolivar; two grandsons, Caden Goodwin and Micah Rippel; and two brothers, Ernie (Pam) Moore of Isle-of-Wight, England and Wayne Selden of Akron. Completing the family are his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob and Wilma Briggs of New Philadelphia; a brother-in-law, Dr. Robert (Heidi) Briggs of New Philadelphia; a sister-in- law, Lori Briggs of Michigan; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Gordon was preceded in death by his faithful companion, Co-Co.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Gordon’s life will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Steven Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in Ft. Laurens Cemetery at Bolivar. Following the committal service, a memorial reception will be held in the fellowship hall in the First United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia. Those wishing to do so may send the family a personal condolence and light a candle in remembrance of Gordon by visiting the funeral home website.
