Goldie Marie Peterman, 72, of New Philadelphia, died Sunday, January 24, 2010 surrounded by her family in her home following a courageous seven year battle with ALS.A daughter of the late Melvin Milligan and Minnie (Ruth) Milligan-Reichman, Goldie was born September 12, 1937 at Dennison, Ohio.On January 12, 1953, Goldie married Lawrence E. Peterman in Indianapolis, Indiana and together the couple raised six children. Goldie and Lawrence shared 54 years of marriage together prior to his passing on August 12, 2007.Goldie retired from East Sparta Ceramic in 2002 and was also devoted homemaker who took great pride in caring for her husband and six children.She enjoyed riding motorcycles with her late husband as well as canning, baking, sewing and cooking family meals for holiday gatherings. Goldie loved listening to country music, especially the music of Loretta Lynn.She is survived by her children, Maretta Cottrell of New Philadelphia, Alan (Marty) Peterman of New Philadelphia, Debbie Sickels of New Philadelphia, Rickie (Tammie) Peterman of New Philadelphia, Jeffrey (Tracey) Peterman of Dennison and Cheryl (David) King of New Philadelphia; 14 grandchildren; one step-grandchild and 8 great grandchildren. A sister, Rose (Wayne) Kennison of Uhrichsville; a brother, Arthur Ray Reichman of Strasburg and Dean and Ruth Gilmore of East Sparta, who Goldie loved as a brother and sister complete the family.Goldie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lawrence; a brother Melvin Ronald Milligan and son-in-law, Jim CottrellThe family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Goldie’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel with Pastor Roger Warnes officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover. Following the committal service, a memorial reception will be held in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.Contributions may be made in Goldie’s memory to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West Third Street, Dover, OH 44622.
