Goldie Margaret Davis, age 91, an angel on Earth, became one of God’s heavenly angels on Wednesday, January 07, 2015, while in the care of Community Hospice House following a period of declining health.
Born on February 15, 1923, at Roswell, Ohio, Goldie was a daughter of the late Mike and Helen (Talaber) Chek.
She was a 1941 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and for many years was a familiar face at the former Jaffe’s Department Store in Downtown New Philadelphia.
Goldie was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia where she enjoyed the fellowship of the United Methodist Women, taught Sunday school and enjoyed many trips to Lakeside. Goldie’s hobbies included sewing, exercising and walking; but above all, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Michael (Kathy) Davis of Orlando, Florida and John (Susan) Davis of New Philadelphia; and a sister, Helen (Don) Kamban of New Philadelphia.
Completing the family are grandchildren, Chris (Meghann) Davis, Trevor Davis, Amanda (Joey) Jacobs, Michael Davis, and Amy Davis; great-grandchildren, Gavin and Gage Davis, Miranda Jacobs, Ziah Henry, and Arabelle Thomas and as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Goldie was preceded in death by her husband, Walter “Red” Davis; and two brothers, John Chek and Albert Chek.
The family will receive guests on Saturday, January 10, 2015 from 2:00 – 3:00 PM in the First United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia where Rev. Jim Humphrey will lead a service celebrating Goldie’s life in the in the church Sanctuary on Saturday at 3:00 PM. Burial will follow in the Ridgecrest Memorial Gardens at Dover. Following the committal, all are invited to share in a time of food and fellowship in the church Social Hall.
